Abstract

This paper presents a design and analysis of compact Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) microstrip antenna, printed on 1.6mm thicker FR-4 substrate. The proposed MIMO microstrip antenna consists of a four identical rectangular collinear elements extended towards each other and loaded with rectangular split ring slot defected ground structure (RSRSDGS) and overall dimension is 52X53X1.6mm 3 . The HFSS software is used to simulate the compact MIMO microstrip antenna. The proposed antennas were simulated, fabricated and measured. The proposed antenna works at dual band frequencies 4.1GHz, 5.3GHz with satisfactory bandwidth of 450MHz, 200MHz and mutual coupling of 23dB, 29.5dB respectively. The result of this proposed compact MIMO mictostrip antenna system shows a wide bandwidth, high data rate, and good amount of physical and virtual size reduction, which are promising proposed compact MIMO microstrip antenna well suitable for next generation wireless application systems.
